Scottish Borders Walking Festival - How Much??

The Scottish Borders Walking Festival is held in the InnerleithenWalkerburn and Clovenfords area and are hosting the 19th Scottish Borders Walking Festival, which will take place from 1st-7th September 2013.


This is the oldest Walking Festival in Scotland and moves around annually to different areas of the Scottish borders.

We have designed an itinerary for 4 nights starting on the Wednesday the 4/09/2013.
The accommodation we have chosen is the Tweed View Bed & Breakfast , just between Peebles and Innerleithen.

Wednesday 04/09


Arrive at the Tweed View bed and breakfast.
Blackhopebyre to Innerleithen 8miles
A linear walk in the hills (including Windlestraw Law and Glede Knowe) high above Innerleithen. Magnificent views with an opportunity to observe the land use patterns and upland wildlife of the area and to learn about the history of the Mill town. On paths, tracks and over some rough ground.
Thursday 05/09
The Southern Upland Way: Galashiels to Innerleithen 13 miles
From Gala Policies follow the route over Hogg Hill to the Tweed, then climb through Yair Forest to the Three Brethren cairns,then out along the Minchmoor ridge with fine views across the central Bord
Finger Buffet and Live Entertainment at the Clovenfords Country Inn 8pm
The Boyds will be playing a live mix of 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s songs including Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and Eagles at the Country Inn with a two hour set in the conservatory.
The Clovenfords Hotel was originally Whytbank Cottages, the first houses in the village, converting to an inn circa 1750. Sheriff Sir Walter Scott stayed in the hotel from 1799 to 1801, before moving to Ashiestiel. Between 1803 and 1901, the hotel relocated to a smaller building across the road, now “The Old Staging House”
Friday 06/09
Birkhill to St. Mary’s Loch via Herman Law 7 miles
A chance to climb another Donald hill above the gently remote Yarrow Valley. On the high ridges where the shepherds tend their flocks we will cross over to the Southern Upland Way on Pykestone Rig. The route continues down to the ruin of the abandoned shepherd’s home at Riskinhope Hope from where we will descend to Loch o’ the Lowes and St Mary’s Loch.
Ceilidh with the Clarty Cloot 8pm
A traditional Scottish ceilidh with a bar and dancing to the music of the Clarty Cloot.
Saturday 07/09

Peebles to Kirkhouse by Glen Sax and Dun Rig 11 miles
Follow the Glensax Burn along this fine valley before striking out for the Summit of Dun Rig (742m). here there are great views across Tweeddale and a chance of seeing a variety of upland wildlife before descending down through The Glen following the Quair Water.
Closing Ceremony 5pm
Finish the week with a march from Hall Street to Memorial Hall, Innerleithen, alongside the pipe band. The shepherd’s crook will be handed over to next year’s hosts, Jedburgh and Denholm.

How Much??
For Two People:-

Accommodation - 4 nights Bed and Breakfast = £300 (there is a 10% discount for stays of over 3 nights) so £270
Walks - All the walks are £6 each and evening entertainment is £12 each. Total £36 per person

Total = £342 for two people

Conclusion:-

A great looking walking festival with lots on offer - 5 walks a day and something on every evening makes this a great way to walk and meet other people. 

The price of £171 per person for 4 nights B&B, 4 guided walks and 3 evenings full with entertainment you cant beat it...Get your boots on and go walking in a different area guided.
