Pendle Walking Festival - How Much??

Pendle walking festival has over 70 walks to choose from and must make it one of the bigger walking festivals in the UK. It is held over a the week 31/08 to 08/09.

Pendle is criss-crossed by a fantastic network of footpaths and has walks to suit everyone's ability.

Walk in the footsteps of the famous Pendle Witches...Catch up with the ‘Father of Time’ or… be a Greek
legend.
These are the challenges that await you in this year’s bumper edition of the 10th anniversary Pendle Walking Festival. And because we know that you will have earned it, we will award your efforts with our now famous
Certificates of Achievement. You cannot buy them! (Honest!)

We are going to do a week long itinerary staying in the Hollin Bank Barn, a 10 minute drive to the start of many walks.

Day 1 Saturday 31/08
Check into Hollin Bank Farm B&B
Walk 1 3 miles – Easy – 2pm
Meet at Colne Railway
Station
Circular walk through the historical centre of Colne and taking in the industrial heritage of Waterside.

Day 2 Sunday 01/9
Pendle’s Three Peaks
Challenge
28 miles – Very Hard – 6.45am
Climb Pendle, Weets and Boulsworth in one day. A real epic and a great way to see the best of what Pendle has to offer. There is a charge of £20 per person for this walk.

Day 3 Monday 02/09
A history walk from
Earby to Thornton-in
Craven
5 miles – Moderate – 11am
The walk includes a visit to the 14th Century church with its ancient well at Thornton-in- Craven. We also look at the site of an old water mill and a corn mill.

Barley Evening
3 miles – Easy – 6pm
Come and enjoy a short walk around Barley returning in time for a drink at the Pendle Inn.

Day 4 Tuesday 03/09
Pendle Way Stage 3
Coldwell to Newchurch
12 miles – Hard – 10am
The bus takes us to the start of the third stage at Coldwell Inn from where we set off through Catlow Clough and the Calder Valley.

Day 5 Wednesday 04/09
Lancashire Witches
Walk Day 3 - Slaidburn to Deep Clough
12.5 miles – Very Hard – 10am
From Slaidburn the walk heads into the high Bowland Fells. A bus will meet us at Deep Clough for the return to Slaidburn.

4.5 miles – Easy – 6.30pm
We take the footpath around Blacko Hill and pick up the Pendle Way. If the weather is fine, we will see the sun set over Pendle.

Day 6 Thursday 05/09
Great Edge and Boulsworth
12 miles – Very Hard – 10am
The walk takes us up onto Great Edge and then picks up the Pendle Way to Wycoller. We contour round Boulsworth Hill before returning via Trawden.

Day 7 Friday 06/09
Lancashire Witches
Deep Clough to Lancaster Castle
10.5 miles – Very Hard – 10am
The bus will take us from Lancaster Castle back to Deep Clough for the start of our final day’s walk. We will arrive on foot at Lancaster Castle’s Shire Hall in time to see where the witches were held.

Bat Walk and Talk
1 miles – Easy – 7.30pm
An introduction to British Bats (slide show) followed by a walk listening to and watching for bats.

Day 8 Saturday 07/09
Moorings and Moorland
11 miles – Very Hard – 10am
Our route takes us to Slipper Hill reservoir via Lake Burwain and the ‘Mile Tunnel’ entrance. We follow the canal to Salterforth, head across the disused railway line up to Kelbrook Moor and return via Lancashire Ghyll - the Historic Lancashire/Yorkshire border.

Day 9 Sunday 08/09
Check out of B&B

Pendle, Downham
and Barley
14 miles – Very Hard – 9.30am
We ascend Pendle twice - once from each side, and visit Robin Hood’s (Fox’s) well and the picturesque village of Downham. Our return over the hill is the steep way and ending in Barley.
Our return is by the Witch Hopper bus service from Barley.

For one person
Accommodation = £360

Conclusion

A comprehensive list of walks to choose from that make this a popular festival. You can have interesting short walks or choose more challenging hikes. A great looking programme.

It costs £271 per person for 12 guided walks and 8 nights bed and breakfast in  4 star accommodation. That is a very full and cheap walking holiday. Get yourself there and enjoy the Lancashire countryside(quite hard to say when your from Yorkshire).
